A nine-year-old child died after burning a toy doll in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna.

Monirul Islam, OC (Investigation) of Ishwardi Police Station, said that the girl died at around 12:15 on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Deceased Riya Khatun was the daughter of Pintu Biswas of Madhyapara area of ​​Maniknagar village in Salimpur union of Ishwardi upazila and a second class student of Diyar Sahapur Government Primary School.

Riya’s maternal brother Saurabh Hossain told eyewitnesses, “On Wednesday, Riya and her younger brother were making clay toys in the yard. They lit a fire to burn that toy.

“However, due to carelessness, Riya Paran’s jamaat caught fire. At that time, the two siblings screamed and the neighbors went ahead and closed the gate of the house. Later they were rescued by breaking the gate.”

He said, “At that time, most of Riya’s body was burnt. They were quickly rescued and admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex and later to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He died at the hospital after ten hours of treatment there.”

Riya’s father Pintu Biswas works at Rooppur nuclear power plant. He said in a tearful voice, “Only Riya and her five-year-old younger brother were at home when the fire took place. I have nothing else to say.”

OC Monirul Islam said that the girl was trying to make a doll out of clay and burn it. At that time his clothes caught fire. The main door of the house was locked at the time of the incident. Later neighbors went and rescued him.
