It will be known on April 29 whether the trial of 33 accused in the murder case of former Motijheel police station Awami League Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Preeti will begin in the capital’s Shahjahanpur.
On Thursday (April 25), the hearing on the petition for the release of the accused ended in the court of Judge Ali Hossain of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-3. The court then posted April 29 for orders on framing of charges.
The accused in the case are – Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League Organizing Secretary Golam Ashraf Talukder, Dhaka South City Corporation Ward No. 10 Councilor and Awami League Leader Maruf Ahmed Mansoor, Underworld Top Terrorist Jisan Ahmed Montu, Freedom Manik alias Zafar, Chief Coordinator Suman Sikder Musa, Shooter Masum Mohammad Akash, Shamim Hossain, Taufiq Hasan aka BD Babu, Ward No. 10 Jubo League Expelled President Maruf Reza Sagar, BCL Former Convener Arifur Rahman aka ‘Ghatak’ Sohail, Motijheel Thana Jatiya Party Leader Zuber Alam Khan Rabin, Hafizul Islam Hafiz, Habibullah Bahar Former convener of College Chhatra League Sohail Shahriar, Mahbubur Rahman Titu, Nasir Uddin Manik, Mashiur Rahman Ikram, Yasir Arafat Saikat, Abul Hossain Mohammad Arfan Ullah Imam Khan, Sekandar Shikdar Akash, former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Chhatra League Khairul Islam Matbar, Abu Saleh Shikder, Kilar Nasir, Omar Farooq, Mohammad Maruf Khan, Ishtiaq Ahmed Jitu, Imran Hossain Jitu, Rakibur Rahman Rakib, Morshedul Alam Palash, Rifat Hossain, Sohail Rana, former leader of Ward Jubo League Aminul, Samsul Haider Uchhal and former president of Ward number 11 Kamruzzaman Babul.
On March 24, 2022, around 10:15 PM, Motijheel AGB Colony former general secretary of Awami League Zahidul Islam Tipu and college student Preeti were killed by unknown miscreants in front of Shajahanpur Amtala Islami Bank Hospital on their way home from the restaurant. Tipu’s driver was shot dead.
Tipu’s wife Farzana Islam Dolly filed a case in this incident. The accused in the case are unknown. On June 5 last year, the investigating officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Yasin Shikder filed a charge sheet in the court against 33 people.
