Bogra: An irrigation pump owner named Aminul Islam (43) was stabbed to death due to delay in supplying water to Boro paddy land in Gabtali upazila of Bogra.
A young man named Hriday (23) involved in the murder was arrested by the local people and handed over to the police.
The murder took place on Thursday (April 25) around 9:30 am in the upazila Buzruk area.
Deceased Aminul Islam is the son of Mozaffar Hossain of Buruj village in Nepaltali union of Bogra Gabtali upazila.
The detained Hriday is a resident of Nishindara area of Bogra Sadar Upazila.
Abdur Rahman, the younger brother of deceased Aminul, said that his brother used to operate an irrigation pump commercially on the land of Buruj field. Deepan, son of Abdul Malek of their village, went to Aminul a few days ago to irrigate his land. But Aminul said that there will be a delay in giving water to his land, causing a dispute. As a result of this, the young man named Hriday went to the irrigation pump at around 9:30 am on Thursday and asked Aminul to irrigate Dipan’s land immediately. An argument started between them.
He also said that at one stage Hridoy stabbed Aminul in the chest and ribs. Aminul was rescued and admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (Shajimek) Hospital. He died at around 11 pm while undergoing treatment there. Meanwhile, when the young man named Hridiya ran away after the stabbing, the locals arrested him and handed him over to the police.
Gabtali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said that the young man named Hriday went to visit his various houses from Nishindara in Bogra town to Buruj village in Gabtali. There, the locals stabbed Aminul, the owner of the irrigation pump, in a dispute. Aminul Islam’s body has been kept in the hospital’s morgue for autopsy. The family told the police that they will file a case at the police station of the deceased after the body is buried.
