Khulna originates from the word ‘Culnea’ written in the record of the rescue of the sailors of the ship ‘Falmouth’ in 1766. According to scholars, the name Khulna is derived from ‘Kismat Khulna’ Mauza. Many believe that Khulna comes from the word Jessore-Culna written on the British Shashanamal map.
