Accusation of killing housewife against in-laws, human chain for trial
Riyad Islam, Ishwardi: [২] Sumaiya Khatun (21), a housewife in Pabna’s Ishwardi, left her body in the hospital and her husband ran away. Later the police came and recovered the body. After this incident, Sumaiya’s in-laws covered her body. Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased formed a human chain demanding the trial of Sumaiya’s murder and the execution of the killers.
[৩] At 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, they held the human chain program at the railway gate area of the upazila Sadar. Hundreds of men and women gathered in it, defying the heat.
[৪] According to the family of the slain housewife and police sources, the family members rescued the housewife Sumaiya from her bedroom in East Tengri Kadamtala village of the upazila on Monday. Later, when he was taken to the emergency department of Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared him dead. The hospital authorities reported the matter to the police station. At one point, her husband left the body of the housewife in the hospital and ran away.
[৫] Sumaiya got married on November 11, 2022 due to family disapproval. After six months of marriage, the girl’s family accepted. Then dowry is given. But after a few months, torture started again for dowry money. Sumaiya was recently sent to her father’s home in West Tengri Kacharipara village of the city. Two days before her death, Sumaiya was sent to her husband’s house based on an agreement between the two families.
[৬] Arman Mandal, a resident of West Tengri Kacharipara village of the city, said that his daughter got married to Talat Mahmud Akash Khan, son of deceased Daulat Khan of East Tengri Kadamtala area. After 12 o’clock last Monday, neighbors came to know that there was a quarrel between husband and wife over family matters. Then he came to know that his daughter had died. Later, the family members including the girl’s husband left the body of the girl in the hospital and ran away.
[৭] Arman Mandal claimed that his daughter was tortured on Sunday night. After that, when he died, he was hanged in the middle of the house with a noose, and it is being said that it was suicide. He demanded justice for this incident.
[৮] Monirul Islam, Inspector (Investigation) of Ishwardi Police Station, who is involved in the postmortem of the body, said that he has conducted an autopsy on the body after receiving the complaint. The cause of death cannot be confirmed yet. The exact cause will be known after the post-mortem report.
