Today is 12 Baisakh 1431 Bangabd, traditional Abdul Jabbar Balikhela of Chittagong. The 115th edition of this volleyball game is going to be held at the city’s historic Laldighi Maidan on Thursday (April 25) at four o’clock in the afternoon. More than 150 ballers from all over the country have already registered to participate in the competition under the auspices of NHT Sports Complex. Registration will continue until Thursday noon.

The stage is already ready. Where the boliras of Tetulia from Teknaf along with Chittagong will fight for excellence. According to the organizers, 80 contestants will be selected for the main phase after scrutiny. From there four winners will be announced. Among them, one will be declared as the champion, one as the runner-up and the other two as the third and fourth respectively.

ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railway Ministry, MP from Raujan will be the chief guest at this year’s Jabbar Balikhela. Chittagong District Sports Association General Secretary AJM Nashir Uddin will be the inaugural function. Syed Mohammad Tanseer, managing director of NHT Sports Complex, the sponsor of this year’s volleyball game, will be the special guest.

Courtesy of NHT Sports Complex, the sponsor of volleyball, there is a cash prize of Tk 30,000 along with a trophy for the champion volleyball player. Which is the highest ever. The runner-up will get a trophy and a cash prize of Tk 20,000. 10,000 with a trophy for the third place and 5,000 cash for the fourth place with a trophy. In addition, the winners of the first round of this year’s volleyball tournament will receive a trophy and two thousand rupees in cash.

Earlier on Wednesday (April 24), the victims started arriving in Chittagong from different parts of the country. Registration process begins. Last season’s champion Shahjalal Boli of Comilla, runner-up Chakriar Tariqul Isnlam Jiban Boli confirmed their presence.

Abdul Jabbar Memorial Wrestling Competition and Boishakhi Mela Committee President Andarkilla Ward Councilor Jaharlal Hazari said that all preparations have been completed for the volleyball tournament. More than 150 new and old sacrifices have been registered.

Chowdhury Farid, vice president of the committee, said that this time the game will be started at 4 pm instead of 3 pm. Accommodation has been arranged for those who have come from far and wide to participate in the competition. Besides, the training course will be officially launched after the volleyball tournament is over.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the traditional Abdul Jabbar memorial ball game, a three-day Baisakhi fair has been held from Wednesday across Laldighi and its surrounding roads. This fair is going on with an area of ​​several kilometers from Andarkilla to Kotwali, from Cinema Palace to Khatunganj, through Jail Khana Gate to Newmarket Junction. In the temporary shops of the fair, the shopkeepers are selling a variety of household and folk products including clay pots, bamboo and cane furniture, tree seedlings, flower brooms, hand fans, mudri-murki, rugs, sticks, sticks, knives. Chittagong Metropolitan Police has issued traffic restrictions in Laldighi and surrounding areas for three days on the occasion of the fair.

Incidentally, in 1909, Abdul Jabbar Saudagar, a businessman of Badarpati area, introduced this ball game to involve the youth in the anti-British movement.
