Kuki-China National Front (KNF) chief Nathan Bom opened a new account of negotiations after the recent bank robbery in Bandarban. He is clueless. There is confusion about whether he is in Mizoram, India, or in a European country. But this time Nathan’s wife Lalsamkim Bom is also not found.

Being a nurse of Lalsamkim Government Hospital, the issue of her being desensitized is gaining importance. He was immediately transferred (stand release) to Lalmonirhat 250 bed hospital from Ruma Upazila Health Complex on April 8.

However, even after 14 days of transfer, there is no whereabouts of Nathan’s wife. He did not join Lalmonirhat till yesterday. Lalsamkim is not in his house in Ruma.

Locals said that since the order of transfer to Lalmonirhat, Lapatta has been in Lalsamkim. He is not even staying at his house in Ward No. 2 of Ruma Sadar. There is a discussion about whether he went into hiding in fear of arrest.

Dr. Bandarban civil surgeon. Mahbubur Rahman said that the copy of Lal Samkim’s immediate transfer was delivered to his home. Generally after such order you get six days to pack your belongings and join the new place of transfer. From the day Lal Samkim was released from the stand, he is not allowed to stay at Ruma Health Complex. He has to join the new workplace within a certain period.

Ramzan Ali, supervisor of Lalmonirhat 250-bed hospital, said, “We have come to know about the transfer of Nathan’s wife.” But he hasn’t joined yet. Why he is not coming to the new workplace even after so many days, he did not tell either verbally or in writing.

However, related sources say that law enforcement forces suspect whether KNF is in contact with Nathan Bom’s wife and another nurse, Deepali Barai.

Meanwhile, some are worried about the smuggling of information about the ongoing operation against the KNF. Lalsamkim Bom was also interrogated earlier. She then claimed that she had no contact with her husband for several years.

Commander of RAB-15, Lt. Col. HM Sajjad Hossain said that those associated with KNF are under intelligence surveillance. However, the whereabouts of Nathan Bom’s wife is unknown.

Police Superintendent Saikat Shaheen of Bandarban said, I am not getting the whereabouts of Nathan’s wife. I know he is not at home. We don’t have clear information about Nathan’s whereabouts either.

Nathan Bom, son of late Jaotan Loncheo, a resident of Edenpara, Ruma Sadar Union. His father was a jumchasi. Mother deceased Raukil Bom. Nathan is the youngest of five brothers and one sister. Nathan grew up in poverty. His two brothers cultivate jum. One of Nathan’s brothers is a Class IV employee of Rowangchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office. Another brother is in Rangamati jail in a money laundering case.

In 1996, Nathan Bom could not pass the admission test in the Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University (DU). In the same year, the former vice-chancellor of DU, Emajuddin Ahmad, visited Bandarban and promised direct admission of students from Khiang, Lusai, Mro, Bam ethnic groups to the university. So even if he did not pass the exam, Nathan got the chance to get admission in the Faculty of Fine Arts.

After the robbery in Bandarban, the top level of the government decided that a red notice would be applied to Interpol, the international police agency, to bring back Nathan. No notice has been sent in this regard till yesterday. When asked about the matter, Ali Haider Chowdhury, AIG of National Central Bureau (NCB), Interpol branch office of Police Headquarters, said that if the application comes from the agency that is investigating Nathan Bom, it will be sent to Interpol in due process. We have not yet received such a letter.

Meanwhile, KNF claimed in a statement given on their Facebook page, ‘Intelligence agencies including state forces were trying to frame KNF chief Nathan Bam and his wife Lalsamkim Bam in various ways for a long time. Nathan’s wife was terrified after the raid by the joint forces. The villagers could not say anything about him. Intelligence wing of KNF has not yet received any information about Lalsamkim’s whereabouts.’

KNF tried to loot money by breaking the vault of Sonali Bank in Ruma on the night of April 2. Unable to withdraw the money, the bank manager was kidnapped and the police-guard on guard looted 14 weapons of Ansar. The next day at noon, they looted more than 10 lakhs from Sonali and Krishi Bank in Thanchi. After this incident, army, BGB, police, RAB and Ansar members conducted a coordinated operation. 75 people have been arrested so far in the operation.

In the beginning of 2022, there was talk of an armed organization called KNF in Bandarban’s Ruma on social media. Claimed to be made up of the Bam, Pankhwaa, Lusai, Khiang, Khumi and Mro, there are a small number of Bam people. For this reason the organization is known as ‘Bum Party’ in the hills.

On the Facebook page of KNF, they said, Baghaichhari, Barkal, Juraichhari and Bilaichhari of Rangamati and Rowangchhari, Ruma, Thanchi, Lama, Alikadam and 9 upazilas of Bandarban will be formed as ‘Kuki-chin state’. Later they got involved in an armed conflict with the law and order forces. At that time, more than 500 men and women fled to Mizoram in fear of the operation of the law and order forces.

RAB said in a press conference in Dhaka in October 2022 that the armed organization provides military training to the members of the new militant organization ‘Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya’ in exchange for money.
