Pabna (Iswardi): A child named Riya Biswas (11) was burnt to death while burning toys made of clay in Salimpur Union of Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna.
He died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital on Wednesday (April 24) around 12:15 pm.
Earlier on Wednesday (April 24) at 12:15 in the afternoon, the accident took place in Maniknagar village in Salimpur union of Ishwardi upazila.
Riya is the daughter of Pintu Biswas of Maniknagar Pathshala Mor area of Salimpur Union of Ishwardi Upazila and a second class student of Sahapur Government Primary School in Diyar.
Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex doctor Dr. Sabrina Rahman told BanglaNews that 90% of the body except the rear face was burnt in the fire. Riya was referred to Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital for better treatment as her condition was critical.
According to local residents and local sources, Riya’s father Pintu Biswas works in the under-construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Project in Ishwardi’s Pakshi and her mother works in Ishwardi EPZ. Every day they lock the main gate of the house and go to work. Riya and her 3-year-old younger brother used to stay at home.
On Wednesday (April 24) morning, Rhea’s parents went to the office as usual, and Rhea was making toys out of clay in the backyard with her younger brother. While burning them in the yard of the house, Riya’s clothes accidentally caught fire. It burnt different parts of his body. At that time, local people rushed in front of the house after hearing Riya’s screams. But because the main gate of the house was closed, no one could enter the house. Later the relatives informed Riya’s parents. They came home and opened the main gate to find a burnt Riya lying in the courtyard inside the house. Meanwhile, his relatives rescued him and took him to Iswardi Upazila Health Complex. As Riya’s condition is critical, she was sent to Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital. Riya died while undergoing treatment there.
Pintu Biswas, Riya’s father, who was burnt in the fire, confirmed this fact and told Banglanews that after locking the main gate of the house, we went to the husband and wife office. The gate of the house was locked. Due to which the neighbors and relatives heard Riya’s screams but no one could enter the house. In the fire, the whole body was burnt except the face of Riya. We rescued him unconscious and took him to Iswardi Upazila Health Complex. He was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his physical condition deteriorated there. Riya died there.
