The Election Commission (EC) will hold a meeting today (April 25) with all the District Commissioners (DC), Superintendents of Police (SP), Divisional Commissioners, and others to conduct the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections smoothly.

Deputy Secretary of the organization’s election management branch. Atiyar Rahman has already sent instructions to the concerned to attend the meeting on time.

According to the instructions, a meeting will be held at the Election Commission Secretariat on Thursday, April 25 at 11 am in the presence of all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Inspector Generals of Ranges, Deputy Commissioners, Regional Election Officers and Superintendents of Police on the occasion of the Sixth Upazila Parishad General Election. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal will attend the meeting chaired by Election Commissioners, Secretary of Election Commission Secretariat and other concerned officials.

The directive has been sent to Ministry of Public Administration, Senior Secretary of Public Security Department, Cabinet Secretary, Inspector General of Police, all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Inspector General of Police, all DCs and SPs.

The Election Commission has already announced the four-phase schedule for the Upazila Parishad elections to be held.

As per the schedule for the first phase, the nomination and selection period is over. 1 thousand 786 valid candidates, appeal against decision of Returning Officer from 18 to 20 April. Appeal disposal 21 April, last date for withdrawal of candidature 22 April. Symbols will be allotted on April 23, and voting in 152 upazilas will be held on May 8.

District Election Officers and Upazila Election Officers have been appointed as Assistant Returning Officers in this round of elections. The appeal filed against the decision of the Returning Officer will be disposed of by the District Commissioner as the appellate authority.

As per the schedule for the second phase, last date for submission of nomination papers is 21 April, selection of nomination papers is 23 April, acceptance of appeals is 24-26 April, disposal of appeals is 27-29 April. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 30th April, Allotment of Symbols Allotment of Symbols is 2nd May. Voting in 161 upazilas will be held on May 21.

Additional District Commissioners have been appointed as Returning Officers and Upazila Nirbahi Officers as Assistant Returning Officers in this round of elections. The number of voters is more than 5 lakh where more than one Assistant Returning Officer will be deployed.

As per the phase III schedule, last date for submission of nomination form is May 2, nomination scrutiny is May 5. Appeal against decision of Returning Officer 6 to 8 May.
Appeal disposal from 9 to 11 May. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 12 May. Allotment of symbols among contenders is on May 13 and voting is on May 29. In this phase, voting will be held in 112 upazilas.

Additional District and Additional Regional Election Officers and Additional District Commissioners have been appointed as Returning Officers in this phase.

According to the schedule for the fourth phase, the last date for submission of nomination form is May 9, nomination scrutiny is May 12. Appeal against Returning Officer’s decision from 13 to 15 May.
Appeal disposal from 16 to 18 May. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 19 May. Allotment of symbols among the contending candidates is on May 20 and voting is on June 5. In this phase, voting will be held in 55 upazilas.

Additional District and Additional Regional Election Officers and Additional District Commissioners have been appointed as Returning Officers in this phase.
