It has been reported that six workers were killed when a dump truck engaged in border road work fell into a ditch in Udaipur 90 degree area of Sajek in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati. Eight others were injured in this incident. The accident happened on Wednesday (April 24) afternoon.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akhtar confirmed the truth of the incident.
According to local sources, the house of the injured workers is in Rangpur area. They were engaged in the construction of Harijapara bridge at a place called 17 km of the Udaipur Baghaichhari border road. They were returning from work to go home as work was over.
Atulal Chakma, chairman of Sajek Union Parishad, said that all those who were in the car were laborers engaged in border road work. There are many high and low hills on this road. The vehicle lost control and fell into a ditch while coming down at a place called 90 degrees on Udaipur road.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akhter said that a dump truck lost control and fell into a ditch on its way back to Khagrachari after the work on the Udaipur border road in Sajek at around 5:30 pm. There were a total of 17 workers in the vehicle. Out of which 6 workers died. 8 others were injured. Due to the remoteness of the area, rescue work is difficult. The police and army rescued the injured and sent them to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital.
