Three more people died when a truck carrying laborers fell into a ditch at Udaipur in Sajek Union of Rangamati’s Baghaichhari Upazila. Earlier, six people were killed on the spot of the accident. The death toll has increased to 9.

The accident took place in the 90 degree area of ​​Udaipur on Wednesday (April 24) around 5:30 pm. Seven more injured persons are undergoing treatment at Khagrachari Sadar Hospital. The victims of the accident are workers. The administration could not reveal the names of the victims. However, most of their homes are known to be Kishoreganj, Kurigram and Gazipur.

According to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital and police sources, seven people in a truck and three people in a jeep were brought to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital from the accident site. Trucks and jeeps carrying the injured reached the district headquarters hospital around 9:30 pm. Sagar Dev Tapu, a doctor on duty in the emergency department, declared the three people dead after bringing them to the hospital.

Doctor Sagar Dev Tapu said that three people were brought here dead. The remaining seven injured people are being treated at the hospital. The condition of five of them is critical.

Earlier in the evening, Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akhtar said that the dump truck carrying 16 laborers engaged in the work of the border link road in Udaipur lost control and fell into the ditch. Six people were killed on the spot. The rest were injured. They have been sent to Khagrachari Hospital.

Rangamati Assistant Superintendent of Police (Baghaichhari Circle) Abdul Awal said that the truck lost control in the 90 degree area of ​​the border road and fell into a 100-feet deep ravine. Army personnel and locals rescued the dead and injured. After taking the injured to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital, doctors declared three others dead. Seven people are under treatment there.

Atulal Chakma, chairman of Sajek Union Parishad, said that all those who were in the car are laborers engaged in border road work. There are many high and low hills on this road. The vehicle lost control and fell into a ditch while coming down at a place called 90 degrees on Udaipur road. Six people died immediately. The rest were injured.
