The court has sent 5 leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal and Svechsevak Dal to jail along with General Secretary of Mahendranagar Union BNP Abdul Wahab Mondal in the murder case of Sramik League leader Jahangir Alam discussed in Lalmonirhat.
Sessions Judge Mizanur Rahman’s court of Lalmonirhat denied bail to the 5 accused in the Jahangir murder case when they surrendered to take bail in Jahangir’s murder case on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, they formed a human chain in front of the Lalmonirhat district BNP party office on Wednesday afternoon to demand the release of the arrested leaders and activists across the country. District BNP president and former deputy minister Principal Asadul Habib Dulu was present and spoke at the human chain.
The other accused in the case are Afzal Hossain, organizing secretary of Mahendranagar Union BNP, Shahanur Rahman Pramanik Sujan, organizing secretary of Mahendranagar Union Youth Dal, member Saddam Hossain and Sohag Patwari, organizing secretary of Mahendranagar Union Swachhasebak Dal.
On October 29 last year, a clash took place at Mahendranagar in Lalmonirhat, centered on the hartal called by BNP-Jamaat and the peace rally of Awami League. Many people including Sramik League leader Jahangir were injured. Jahangir later died under treatment in a critical condition. In that incident, a case was registered in Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station on November 1, including 81 people named as 300-400 accused.
