A priest died after bleeding from his nose and mouth while performing his duties in a temple in Dhaka’s Nawabganj Upazila. Relatives believe that he died in extreme heat.
Tapas Saha, general secretary of the temple, said that the incident took place at Sri Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu temple in Bagmara village of the upazila around 4:30 pm on Wednesday.
Deceased Nitai Chakraborty (70) is the son of late Paresh Chakraborty of Mobarakdi village in Matlab South of Chandpur. He was working as a priest in the temple from a rented house in Bagmara village with his wife and two children for 28 years.
Nitai Chakraborty’s elder son Roni Chakraborty told bdnews24.com, “Dad comes home after praying at the temple like every day from morning till noon. Take a bath, take lunch and take some rest and return to the temple around 4 pm.
“After going to the temple, he suddenly fell ill with heat. At one point, he died on the spot after vomiting and bleeding profusely from his nose and mouth.”
Nitai Chakraborty’s wife Rina Rani Chakraborty said, “My husband’s last wish was that he be cremated in the crematorium of this temple.”
Expressing grief over the death of the priest, Bagmara Sri Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu Mandir General Secretary Tapas Saha told bdnews24.com, “Nitai Chakraborty joined the temple as a priest in 1996. For 28 years, he was serving his duties with honesty and devotion. We are saddened by his sudden death.”
Expressing deep condolences to Nitai Chakraborty’s family, President of Bagmara Sri Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu Mandir and Dhaka District Awami League Vice President Prabir Saha told bdnews24.com, “I cannot accept his sudden death.” All the members of the temple committee are saddened by his death.”
