Six laborers died when a truck fell into a ditch in the ninety degree area of Udaipur road bordering Sajek Union of Rangamati.
The death toll has increased to nine when a truck fell into a ditch in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila. In this incident, six more people are under treatment.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Shirin Akhtar said that the accident took place in the ninety degree area of Udaipur road bordering Sajek Union at around 7 pm on Wednesday.
The names of the injured were not immediately known.
UNO Shirin Akhter said a drum truck lost control and fell into a deep ditch in the ninety degree area of Udaipur. Six workers died on the spot.
On receiving the information, the police rescued nine injured people and sent them to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital.
Sagar Dev Tapu, Medical Officer of Khagrachari Sadar Hospital said that three more died while undergoing treatment.
Upazila administration said immediate information is not available as the area is inaccessible and there is no network.
UNO Shireen Akhtar said, “The incident happened before evening. Can’t get the details. The dead and injured are believed to be construction workers.”
Nelson Chakma Nayan, the former chairman of Sajek Union Parishad, said, “Because the place of occurrence is quite inaccessible, no information can be confirmed.”
