The court sentenced nephew Thandu to life imprisonment for killing freedom fighter Mozaffar Ali in Paschim Rohitpur area of Keraniganj, Dhaka district three years ago.
Dhaka’s 8th Additional District and Sessions Judge Minhajul Monira’s court gave this verdict on Wednesday (April 24).
In addition to life imprisonment, Thandu was fined 10,000 taka, in default of payment he was sentenced to another month’s imprisonment without labour.
Apart from this, he will be sentenced to another 10 years in prison, fined five thousand taka, for causing serious injury to Zelina Akhter Mau, the daughter of a brave freedom fighter, and in default he will have to serve one more month in prison.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Kamruzzaman (Josi) gave this information.
Thandu was produced before the court from the jail before the verdict was pronounced. After the verdict, he was taken to jail with a warrant.
It is known that after the death of Thandu’s father, he sold his property to his uncle Mozaffar Ali and moved elsewhere. Sometimes Thandu would come to his uncle and demand money for expenses. On July 15, 2021, he asked his uncle for 500 rupees. Mozaffar Ali gave him 200 taka and said no more. He went to bathe in the tubewell in front of the house. Thandu rushes there and stabs the uncle in his stomach. Meanwhile, his elder daughter Zelina Akhtar tried to save her father and injured her too. Two people were taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for treatment. Later, the doctor on duty declared Mozaffar Ali dead.
Mozaffar Ali’s wife Nargis Begum filed a case the next day. After investigating the case, Sub-Inspector Mahabubur Rahman Hamid of Keraniganj Model Police Station filed a charge sheet accusing Thandu on February 27, 2022. After that the trial started by framing charges against him. During the trial of the case, the court accepted the testimony of 11 out of 16 witnesses.
