Syed Russell
Pirojpur: A college student named Syed Russell (24) was killed in an attack by the rival of Pirojpur.
He died on Tuesday (April 23) around 12:30 pm while undergoing treatment in Khulna.
Deceased Russell was the son of Idris Ali of Muktarkathi village of Pirojpur Municipality and a second year student of Pirojpur Government Suhrawardy College.
Earlier that day, he was seriously injured when his opponent attacked him while sitting in front of the Kadamtala Union Parishad of the upazila.
On Wednesday (April 24) afternoon, his classmates held a protest march and human chain in Pirojpur city to demand justice for the murder.
According to Thana police and local sources, recently Syed Russell had a dispute with Riazul Islam of Kadamtala village of Sadar Upazila of the district. Russell and his friends were involved in the attack on Riazul. As a result of this dispute, Riazul and his men attacked Russell in a planned manner on Tuesday (April 23) afternoon when Russell was going from Kadamtala to Pirojpur. Russell was seriously injured. He was rescued and first sent to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital and later to Khulna City Hospital for better treatment. He died while undergoing treatment there.
Relatives of the deceased claim that Russell went to his house on April 23 at noon to meet chairman candidate SM Bayezid Hossain in the upazila parishad elections. On his way back from there, some youths who were coming from the east attacked him and seriously injured him. He died while undergoing treatment in Khulna. He was never involved in any wrongdoing. He was killed in an unjust and premeditated manner.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station. Ashikuzzaman said that a murder case is under process in this incident.
