Tajul Islam was arrested
Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CHUET) two students crushed Shah Amanat bus driver Md. Tajul Islam (49) has been arrested. He was arrested from Kotwali area of the city on Wednesday afternoon. The arrested Tajul Islam is the son of Abdul Khalil of Karam Ali Haji’s house in Chikdair area of Raujan police station.
Chittagong District Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Abu Taib Mohammad Arif Hossain said that the bus driver involved in the death of two Chuet students has been arrested from Kotwali area of the city. Later he was sent to court.
On the other hand, the students again blocked the road to protest and demand this incident. Around 9 am on Wednesday morning, they threw tree trunks on the road and set fire to the tires and took a position on the road in front of Chuet.
The agitating students said that the Bus Owners Association has promised to pay Tk 2 lakh as compensation to the killed students. It’s shameful. The administration said that buses of Shah Amanat and AB Travels will not ply on this road. But the route permit was not cancelled. The demand of university administration to provide 5 buses and 4 ambulances has not been fulfilled. So we are carrying out the road blockade programme. I will continue the movement by boycotting the class-examination until all the demands are met.
Chuet registrar Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir said, we have accepted some demands of the students. However, implementation of several demands is time-consuming. That’s why time is needed.
Incidentally, Shanto Saha, a 3rd year student of Chuet Civil Engineering Department and Taufiq Hossain, a 2nd year student, died when they were hit by a bus while going for a ride on a motorcycle in Ziyanagar, Rangunia, last Monday around 3:30 pm. 2nd year student Zakaria Himu was injured in this accident. The injured student is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital. In this incident, angry students blocked the road from 9 am to 10 pm last Tuesday.
A 7-member committee has been formed under the leadership of Additional District Magistrate of Chittagong District Administration to investigate the incident. The students have given 10 point demands to the university administration.
