A Chhatra League worker was beaten to death in Sadar Upazila of Pirojpur.
The OC of Pirojpur Sadar police station said that he died while undergoing treatment at City Medical College Hospital in Khulna city on Tuesday night. Asikuzzaman said.
The deceased Syed Russell (22) is the son of Syed Idris Mir of Muktarkathi area of Pirojpur municipality. He was an honors second year student of Pirojpur Govt Suhrawardy College and was an activist of that college branch Chhatra League.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday afternoon, residents of the area and his classmates held a protest march in Pirojpur city to protest the killing of Russell and demand the arrest of the killers.
Reshma Akhtar, elder sister of the deceased, said, “On Tuesday afternoon, Russell was seen with upazila chairman candidate SM Bayjid Hossain at his house.
“On the way back from there, some people who were already on the road in front of Kadamtala Union Parishad attacked Russell from behind with sticks. He was seriously injured.”
He said, “Russell was first admitted to Pirojpur District Hospital and then to Khulna City Medical College Hospital with serious injuries. Russell died later around 12 midnight. I demand justice for this murder.”
OC Asikuzzaman said that a murder case is under process in this incident. Efforts are on to arrest those involved in the murder.
