Another person named Sujan (9) died in the gas cylinder explosion incident at Vasantek in Mirpur of the capital. The death toll has risen to 5.

Sujan died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Wednesday (April 24) around 2 pm while undergoing treatment. Sujan is the son of deceased Liton Chowdhury of Nandail Upazila of Mymensingh District. He lived with his family in Vasante.

Resident doctor of Burn Institute. Tariqul Islam said that 43 percent of Sujan’s body was burnt.

His maternal grandmother, Mehrun Nesa, father Liton Chowdhury, mother Surya Banu, sister Lamia died earlier in the same incident. Currently her elder sister Liza is under treatment. Doctors said that Liza’s condition is critical.

It is to be noted that on the night of April 12, while catching mosquito coils in Mirpur No. 13 Vasantek area, the gas accumulated from the leakage of the gas cylinder caught fire. Simultaneously the cylinder exploded. 6 people of the same family were burnt.

The incident took place under house No. 4/13L, Kalbat Road, New Bazaar, Vasantech.

They were rescued and admitted to Sheikh Hasina’s National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on the morning of April 13.
