Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, ‘Bangladesh needs 534 billion dollars to combat climate change by 2050. International financial support is essential to implement the climate plan.’

Saber Hossain Chowdhury said these things in a speech given at a session of ‘National Adaptation Plan Expo 2024’, emphasizing on the progress of Bangladesh’s National Climate Plan yesterday (April 23).

Noting that Bangladesh is committed to working with international partners to build climate resilience, the environment minister said the government is committed to advancing climate adaptation efforts and ensuring a sustainable future for all citizens.

The Minister emphasized the importance of proactive action, collaborative efforts and innovative solutions to address climate change challenges. Highlighting Bangladesh’s significant progress in developing and implementing the National Climate Plan, he pointed out the country’s leadership in global climate adaptation.

Environment Secretary presided over the meeting. Farhina Ahmed. CEGIS Executive Director Malik Fida A Khan, ERD Additional Secretary AKM Sohail spoke on the occasion. In addition, climate expert Dr. M. Asaduzzaman spoke on the challenges, opportunities and lessons of NAP formulation and implementation in Bangladesh.

Environment Ministry Deputy Secretary Dharitri Kumar Sarkar and Environment Directorate Director Mirza Shaukat Ali presented the Bangladesh National Adaptation Plan 2023-2050.
