Uncle and niece died when they were cut on the railway line while shopping for marriage
Abdullah Al Amin: Uncle and niece were killed after being hit by a train in an autorickshaw in Mymensingh city. They were passengers of an autorickshaw. The auto-rickshaw, which was on the railway track, was hit by the Brahmaputra Express train bound for Jamalpur.
The incident took place at Pachapukur Par area of the city around 10:30 pm on Tuesday.
The deceased are Abdur Rahman (62) and his niece Shefali Akhtar (45) of Ujan Barera village of Mymensingh Sadar.
Meanwhile, train movement on Jamalpur-Mymensingh route was stopped as the train got stuck. The train left for Jamalpur at 12 pm. Later train movement was normal.
Abdur Rahman’s brother Habibur Rahman said that Abdur Rahman went to the city with Shefali to shop for his nephew’s wedding. When he returned home with the things, the marriage was supposed to take place at night. But they never returned home.
Police and eyewitnesses said that the Brahmaputra Express train from Dhaka to Jamalpur was crossing Mymensingh Junction and heading towards Jamalpur. The train hit an autorickshaw at the crossing in the rotten pond area between Mintu College and New Bazar rail crossing near the junction.
At this time, the train dragged the 2 passengers of the autorickshaw about a hundred yards. A man and a woman died on the spot.
Mymensingh’s Kotwali Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Anwar Hossain said that a man and a woman died on the spot.
He claimed that the gateman was not found at the railway crossing. However, the inspector of the railway transport department said. Shahinur Islam said there was a gateman at the crossing.
Shahinur Islam said, there was a gateman at the crossing, the crossing was also collapsed. But the accident happened when the autorickshaw broke through the gate and entered the railway track.
On the other hand, eyewitnesses said that the train was approaching the railway crossing but there was no gate. After the accident, the gate was hastily pulled down.
