33 people died in a migrant boat sinking off the coast of Djibouti

[৩] According to the United Nations Migration Agency, the accident occurred while crossing the Red Sea from Yemen to Ethiopia. There were 77 passengers on the boat. Deutsche Welle and LaMonde reported the death toll at 21.
[৪] Djibouti fishermen alerted the coast guard after seeing some drowning on Tuesday. Later rescuers came and managed to rescue more than 20 migrants alive. Another 28 people are missing.
[৫] Desperation and fear were evident on the faces of the survivors who were taken to the town of Gadoria on the coast of Djibouti after the rescue. They were taken to hospital for treatment. Later, the United Nations Migration Agency (IOM) took them to Ethiopia.
[৬] Issa Eiyah, a senior official at the Djibouti Coast Guard, said those on board the sunken boat wanted to leave Yemen. Because life there was more difficult than in their own country.
[৭] People fleeing civil war in landlocked Ethiopia often migrate through Djibouti and Yemen in search of employment in Saudi Arabia and many other countries beyond.
[৮] Tuesday’s boat capsizing and migrant deaths come two weeks after another boat accident in the Red Sea killed at least 38 Ethiopians.
