Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for Bangkok today on a six-day official visit at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin. The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage is scheduled to leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10 am. The plane is scheduled to land at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport at 1:30 p.m. local time.

This will be the Prime Minister’s first bilateral visit after forming the government in January.

During the visit, an agreement, three memorandums of understanding and a letter of interest are likely to be signed between the two countries to increase cooperation with Thailand.

There is a possibility of signing MoUs on cooperation in the tourism sector and mutual cooperation on customs to expand relations in tourism.

The Prime Minister will be formally welcomed by Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin on April 26 and will be presented with a formal guard of honour.

The high-level visit will also discuss cooperation in the areas of investment, tourism, energy, land and sea connectivity.

On the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Thailand on April 24 to 29, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, ‘This is both a bilateral and multilateral visit.’

He said, this visit is significant for both sides. Because it will open a new window of cooperation between two friendly countries (Bangladesh and Thailand).

Next Friday, the Prime Ministers of the two countries will hold a bilateral meeting at the Government House of Thailand. On that day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend a state lunch hosted by the Prime Minister of Thailand as a courtesy. During the visit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also meet King Maha Vajira-Longkorn Phra Vajira-Klachao-Uhua and Queen Sudhida Vajrasudha-Bimala-Lakshan at the Royal Palace of Thailand.

The Prime Minister will attend and address the 80th session of UNCAP on April 25.
