Today is the 11th anniversary of the Savar Bus Stand Rana Plaza collapse. This incident which happened on April 24, 2013 is the biggest labor accident in the world. Those who survived are suffering from various diseases and are not financially well off, the injured workers complained.
According to the government, 1,136 workers were killed in this horrific incident. Two thousand 438 people were rescued in injured condition.
The cursed building had a bank, electronic, computer, cosmetics and clothing stores on the first and second floors, as well as on the third floor to the eighth floor, five gamernts including New Web Bottoms, New Web Style, Pantoms Apparels, Pantom Tech and Ethertex Limited.
Some of the workers injured in the accident are small-scale businesses and many have lost vital parts of their bodies and are now crippled for life and living unemployed lives. Their demands are confiscating the land and property of Rana Plaza, rehabilitating the families of the injured and killed workers, providing proper treatment to the injured, ensuring the maximum punishment for the responsible persons including Sohail Rana, declaring April 24 as National Day of Mourning, constructing a memorial in front of Rana Plaza, ensuring the safety of the workers, Make various demands including compensation of one life income.
Demand for speedy disposal of cases: Demand for speedy disposal of all cases including the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case against Rana Plaza owner Sohail Rana in the case of acquisition of assets outside known income.
According to a source, four more cases are pending against Sohail Rana. He is in jail in all these cases. Once granted bail, it is subsequently revoked. Rana Plaza collapsed on April 24, 2013. He was arrested by RAB in Benapole on April 29 of the same year and is currently in jail.
Rafiqul Sujan, Central Committee President of Bangladesh Garments and Workers Federation, said that in 11 years of Rana Plaza, no case has been settled yet. He demanded speedy disposal of all cases with maximum punishment for those responsible including Sohail Rana.
