A shopkeeper and his son were stabbed for not accepting torn 10 rupee notes in Mymensingh’s Tarakanda. The boy died on the spot and the shopkeeper was first referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and later to Dhaka in critical condition.

The incident took place at Sadek Munsi’s shop (62) in Majhiali Bazar of Banihala Union of the upazila on Tuesday (April 23) around 9:30 pm. His dead son’s name is Iqbal Hossain (22).

According to police and local sources, Sadiq Munshi was shopping with his son Iqbal after Tuesday evening. Farooq Mia of the same village went to that shop to buy cigarettes around 8 pm. He bought a cigarette and gave a torn note of 10 rupees. The shopkeeper’s son Iqbal asked to change the note. But Farooq got angry.

At one point in the argument Farooq called his younger brother Parvez Mia. Later, at one stage of the argument, Parvez started stabbing Iqbal inside the shop with the knife he brought with him. At that time they also stabbed the shopkeeper Sadek Munsi. Iqbal died on the spot. Later, Sadek Munsi was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. Then he was referred to Dhaka at around 10 pm.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarakanda police station Wazed Ali said that this murder happened due to a quarrel over giving torn money while buying cigarettes at the shop. Sadeq Munshi’s condition is also critical. Two people have been taken into custody for questioning in this incident. But Farooq and Parvez have not been found yet.
