Since the beginning of Baisakh, severe heat waves are going on across the country. Many people go down to the river or pond to escape from the bad weather and fire. And that’s where accidents happen. Meanwhile, the temperature is touching 42 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi. In the last 10 days, 9 children and teenagers died due to water drowning in this district.
Meanwhile, three teenagers died on Tuesday (April 23) after going down to bathe at Shyampur ghat of Padma river. Later fire service came and recovered their bodies.
On April 14, two children named Jannat Khatun (8) and Jhilik Khatun (12) drowned when they came to their marriage home in Bagha, Rajshahi. On Friday (April 19), another child died after taking a bath in Padma. A young man named Asad Hossain (18) died while taking a bath in a boat in the Padma river in Bagha upazila on Saturday (April 20).
Bappi Hossain (16) and Monir Hossain (20) went down to bathe in Padma river on Sunday (April 21). They also drowned later. Last Tuesday, three teenagers died after drowning in Katakhali area of Rajshahi. They are Rentu’s son Yuvraj (12), Liton’s son Arif (13) and Noor Islam’s son Jamal (12) of Katakhali Bakhrabaz area.
Abu Sama, Senior Station Officer of Rajshahi Fire Service Station, said that drowning deaths have increased in Rajshahi for the past few days. I guess teenagers are dying to bathe in the river to escape the heat.
He urged the parents to be more aware of their children.
