More than 80 earthquakes hit Taiwan’s east coast from Monday night to Tuesday morning, according to reports. The weather administration of the island territory has given this information.

In addition, some of these earthquakes hit one after the other and also caused tremors in the buildings of the capital Taipei.

Taiwan’s Meteorological Administration said the remote eastern county of Hualien was the epicenter of the earthquakes. At least 14 people lost their lives in the area earlier this month after a powerful earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale.

The Hualien Fire Department said a hotel damaged by the April 3 earthquake was further damaged and leaning. However, it was closed due to damage from the previous earthquake. However, no casualty was reported.

Note that Taiwan is extremely earthquake prone as it is located near the junction of two tectonic plates.

Earlier, in 2016, a powerful earthquake in southern Taiwan killed hundreds of people. Before that, in 1999, more than 2 thousand people were killed in the 7.3 magnitude earthquake in this island territory.
