A court sentenced a youth to death for killing his wife in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon.
Naogaon District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Abu Shamim Azad gave this verdict in the presence of the accused, said Public Counsel (PP) Abdul Khalek.
Convicted Salauddin alias Tony (35) is the son of Azizar Rahman of Muradpur village of Nachol upazila of Chapainawabganj.
According to the statement of the case, in 2019 Salauddin got married to Tukajjeba (24), daughter of Abu Kalam of Dhansa village of Niamatpur upazila. Since marriage, Saladin used to abuse his wife physically and mentally. On June 29, 2020, Tukajzeba came to visit her father’s house in Dhansa village of Niamatpur with her husband Salauddin.
On 1 July, Salahuddin stabbed his wife Tukajzeba in the throat with a pair of scissors while staying at her in-laws’ house due to a family dispute. Later Tukajzeba was rescued in a bloody state by breaking down the door. When he was taken to Niamatpur Upazila Health Complex, the doctor declared him dead. The people handed over Salahuddin to the police.
In this incident, Tukajzeba’s father Abu Kalam filed a murder case against Salahuddin at Niamatpur police station. The investigating officer filed a charge sheet against Salahuddin under Section 302 of the Penal Code on June 22, 2022. Out of the 18 witnesses of the state, 15 witnesses were accepted in the court.
PP Abdul Khalek said that the judge imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 in addition to ordering the execution of the accused by hanging.
Atiqur Rahman, the lawyer for the accused, said, “This judgment was made only on the testimony. We will appeal.”
