The police recovered the body of a housewife named Iti Begum (40) from Narail. His body was recovered from his house in Gobra village of Sadar upazila on Sunday night. The deceased is the wife of Maulana Shafiqul Islam of Iti Gobra village. Shafiqul is the imam of Mochra Baitun Noor Jame Masjid of Lohagra upazila.
The police and the relatives of the deceased said that the wife Iti Begum was living alone at home in Gobra as her husband Shafiqul Islam was leading the Mochra Mosque in Lohagarh. Shafiqul used to come home from time to time. Monirul Molya, a day laborer from Fakirhat area of Bagerhat, lived on rent in Shafikul’s house. A couple of months ago, Monirul sent his family home to the village and stayed alone in that rented house. Imam Shafiqul came to his workplace Lohagra on April 17 after Eid holiday. In the meantime, he found out about the killing of his wife on Sunday night.
Neighbors of Shafikul said that since the morning of April 19, Iti Begum and the tenant Monirul have not been seen at home. Both rooms are locked. Many people think that Shafiqul’s wife Iti and tenant Monirul have gone somewhere. However, many people doubted the matter when the stench emanated from Shafiqul’s house on Sunday. Neighbors informed the police along with Shafiqul. The police came to the spot and recovered Iti Begum’s throat-slit body from under the bed of Shafikul’s tenant Monirul Molya.
Imam Shafiqul Islam said, we have been married for 22 years. We have no children in our marriage. But there was no shortage of love between us. I rented a house to Monirul of Bagerhat. Monirul sent my wife away from the world. I want proper justice in this case.
In this regard, Saiful Islam, OC of Sadar Police Station, said that Iti Begum’s throat slit body was recovered and sent to district hospital morgue for autopsy. We seized sharp weapons from the spot. The operation to nab the fugitive suspect Monirul Molya is continuing.
