Two persons were arrested in the case of murder after the rape of a child in Chowhali, Sirajganj.
The Police Bureau of Investigation-PBI has solved the mystery of the gang-rape and murder of a child in Chauhali Upazila of Sirajganj 7 years later.
PBI Sirajganj Police Superintendent Rezaul Karim gave this information in a press conference at his office on Monday morning.
The arrested are Chhabbir Hossain (20), son of Abdul Haque and brother-in-law of the deceased, of Dattakandi village of the upazila, and Shakib Khan (21), son of Arfan member.
The deceased child Suvarna Khatun (8) is the daughter of Shukur Ali of that village.
Rezaul Karim said in the press conference, “Subarna went to Dattakandi High School grounds to see the program organized on the occasion of Independence Day on March 26, 2017. There the accused planned to rape her. As per the plan, Chhabbir and his friend Shakib took Suwarna to Madhyasimuliya pasture after evening.
“There were six others already waiting there. Later, they took Suwarna to the crop field and raped her. At one point he faints when he starts bleeding and tells everyone about the incident. Later the accused strangled the child and left. The police recovered the child’s body the next morning.”
He said, in this incident, the child’s father filed a murder case at the police station. The police submitted the final report to the court without revealing the mystery. However, if the plaintiff did not agree, the court directed the PBI to re-investigate the case.
On the basis of information technology and intelligence information, PBI arrested the child’s brother-in-law Chhabbir from Shyamoli in Dhaka on April 19 and Shakib from his own area on the same day.
Police Superintendent Rezaul Karim said that when they were brought before the court, they gave a confessional statement under Section 164.
Six months ago, another accused, Milan Pasha, son of Bashir member of the same area, was arrested but he is out on bail; The PBI official said that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.
