A student named Swaad (19) of philosophy department died while taking a bath in the swimming pool of Dhaka University. Swaad is a first year student of DU’s philosophy department.
The incident took place in the swimming pool adjacent to the central playground of DU on Monday (April 22) at around 2:30 p.m. He was brought unconscious by his classmates to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Classmate who brought him to the hospital. Sohag said that many students of DU were taking a bath in the swimming pool in the afternoon. Many people were swimming there from one side to the other. He drowned in the pool water. They immediately rescued him and brought him to Dhaka Medical. However, the doctor declared him dead after examining him.
The assistant in charge of Dhaka Medical Police Camp quoted the doctor. Masud confirmed the death. He said that Soad’s body has been kept in the morgue. The incident is being investigated by Shahbag police station.
Soad’s home is in Bogra district. He is a first year student of philosophy department. Stayed at Haji Mohammad Mohsin Hall. His classmates said that he knew how to swim. However, he could not tell how he got into the water.
DU student Molla Taimur Rahman said that Swaad is his junior. While bathing in the swimming pool, when he saw the crowd on the shore, it was his classmates who were trying to squeeze his stomach to get the water out. None of the staff or authorities there were of any help.
He said, he came to know from Sowad’s batchmates that he was suffering from respiratory problems. That is why even though he knows how to swim, he may suddenly fall ill while taking a bath and die.
