The emir of Qatar is coming to Dhaka today, there will be an agreement in the higher education sector

The current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is coming to Dhaka today on a two-day state visit. Through this, an emir of the country is going to set foot on the soil of Bangladesh after almost two decades. During the visit, 6 agreements and 5 memorandums of understanding will be signed between the two countries, said Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud. The Bangladesh government is considering this visit of the Emir of Qatar as very important.

The Emir of Qatar is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on a special flight on Monday (April 22) afternoon.

“I think this visit will play a very important role in increasing the energy reserves in our country and ensuring energy security,” Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday afternoon.

The six agreements that will be signed during the visit are- 1. Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and Tax Evasion, 2. Agreements on cooperation in legal matters, 3. Agreements relating to carriage by sea, 4. Mutual investment development and protection agreement between the two countries, 5. Agreement on the transfer of convicted persons of the two countries, 6. Agreement regarding formation of joint business council.

Besides, the five MoUs that will be signed are- 1. Memorandum of Understanding on Manpower, 2. Memorandum of Understanding on Port Management, 3. Memorandum of Understanding on Higher Education and Scientific Research, 4. Memorandum of Understanding on Youth Sports, 5. Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Diplomatic Training.

Before this, the last emir of Qatar came to Bangladesh two decades ago. In 2005, the then Emir of Qatar Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani came to Bangladesh. After almost 20 years, the current Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is coming to visit Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the park to be built at Balur Math in Kalshi area in Dhaka and the road from ECB Square to Kalshi Flyover will be named after Sheikh Tamim Bin-Hamad Al Thani of Qatar. The Emir of Qatar himself will inaugurate both facilities on Tuesday, April 23 afternoon. He will leave Dhaka by special flight in the evening.
