Abu Saeed Khan, a telecommunications policy expert and senior policy fellow at Asia Pacific-based telecommunications research institute Learn Asia, has passed away.

63-year-old Abu Saeed Khan was suffering from lung cancer for a long time. He died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

His son Tawfiq Mahmood told Dawnbdnews24.com, “Father is no more. He left at 8:35 this morning.”

The family members said that Abu Saeed Khan’s funeral was held at CMH Mosque at noon. From there his body was taken to Tangail village house. He will be buried there next to his wife’s grave.

Abu Saeed Khan was the first Secretary General of Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) in the period 2010-12. Prior to that, he was a Strategy Analyst at Ericsson’s Southeast Asian Head Office in Malaysia until June 2010.

Abu Saeed Khan once also did journalism on the telecom sector. Worked as Technology Editor at bdnews24.com. At that time, he reported on irregularities in government procurement in the telecom sector and also wrote about the telecom policy in the sector.

Abu Saeed Khan also worked as a Research Analyst at EMC World Cellular Database. At that time he worked with the mobile market of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal.

In 2002, Abu Saeed Khan was instrumental in connecting Bangladesh to the first submarine cable.

He has also worked for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, World Bank, Ericsson, Huawei, ADN Group.
