A father and son were hacked and shot dead in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar, police said.

Abu Taher Dewan, OC of Ramu Police Station said that the incident took place in front of Nazrul Islam’s tea shop in Moulvirghona area of ​​North Thwayingakata of Gorznia Union of the upazila at around 1 am on Sunday.

The deceased are – Zafar Alam (55) and his son of that area. Salim (35).

About the locals, OC Abu Taher said that some friends along with Salim were chatting in that tea shop. At that time, 15 to 20 masked terrorists ambushed him.

“They gave Salim a few blows with sharp weapons and he tried to run away screaming. Hearing his son’s screams, his father Zafar Alam threw a torch at him. Later, the terrorists fired at the two of them and fled.”

The OC said, “When the terrorists escaped, the locals rescued the father and son in a bloody state and took them to the Naikshyongchari Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared the two dead. “

He said that the body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Abu Taher said, “It is not yet confirmed who and what caused the incident. Initial information is that the incident took place due to an earlier dispute between two local parties.”

Besides knowing the cause of the incident, an operation is underway to identify and arrest those involved, said the police officer.

Jahangir Alam, younger son of the deceased Jafar, said, “A group of masked men killed my father and elder brother with sharp weapons and gunshots while hanging out at a local shop at night. I don’t know whether the attackers had any prior enmity with them.”
