Natore District and Sessions Judge and Women and Child Torture Suppression Tribunal Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim ordered the death penalty and Tk 20,000 fine to uncle Shahadat Hossain in Natore niece murder case. The judge announced the verdict in the presence of the accused in a crowded courtroom on Monday (April 22) afternoon.
The convicted accused Shahadat Hossain (30) is the son of a Muslim priest of Deogacha village of Singra upazila. According to the court and case sources, on August 4, 2019, news of the death of Abbas Ali of Pakuria village in Singra Upazila left Reshma (16), daughter of Abdur Razzak and brother Shahadat Hossain, and everyone went to participate in the funeral. Everyone came back home and saw Reshma’s dead body. At that time, Shahadat said that Reshma died of a stroke. He also tried to run away from home. Later, when the villagers got suspicious after seeing Shahadat’s talk and Reshma’s body, they chased him and caught him.
He confessed to martyrdom in front of the villagers that he raped Reshma. When Reshma wanted to tell her parents about this incident, she got scared and killed Reshma by strangling her throat.
In this incident, Reshma’s mother Sonavan Bibi filed a case at Singra police station that day. After taking the evidence, the judge ordered Shahadat Hasan’s death sentence and a fine of Tk 20,000. However, he was acquitted of the rape charges. SPP Advocate Anichur Rahman of Natore Judge Court confirmed the verdict and said that justice has been ensured in this verdict.
