Jhilik garlic farmers are happy after receiving bumper yield of garlic and good market price. Onion-Garlic farmers are excited to get good yield and desired market price. Affluence has returned to the common farmer’s house. The garlic farmers of Pabna Bara Upazila are happy that this year the yield and price of garlic is better than last year. According to the sources of Upazila Agriculture Extension Department, due to favorable weather, garlic has been sold at 25-30 maunds per bigha this year and current good size garlic is being sold at Tk. On Monday, I went to the local Kashinathpur market and talked to Azgar Ali, a farmer of Pachuria village in the upazila. He said that in the current season, I cultivated a high-yielding variety of garlic on two bigha of land. About 70 thousand rupees have been spent on two bighas for land cultivation, seed, irrigation, labor etc. A few days ago I sold 4 thousand 800 maunds from home, today I brought 5 maunds for sale at Kashinathpur market and the price is also 500 maunds higher than before. A visit to several haat markets has seen a bumper yield of garlic this season and good prices have put a smile on the faces of farmers in the region. This year, due to desirable prices of onion and garlic and garlic being sold at prices above 5000 maunds, farmers are also increasing their interest in garlic. Bara upazila agriculture officer, agriculturist Nusrat Kabir told this reporter that this time, due to favorable weather conditions, there has been good cultivation of garlic in the upazila. Farmers are more aware now than before. Good garlic has been planted in every field. Also, farmers are happy to get good prices. We are working to fulfill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dream of agriculture by increasing crop production through training and making them more aware and experienced with new technology farming methods.
