The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is coming to Dhaka on a two-day visit today. Preparations have been made for the signing of 11 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOU) between the two countries during his visit. Of these, four are agreements and six are MoEs. Hasan Mahmud stated that the relations between Qatar and Bangladesh have been friendly since independence and said that the relations of friendship have been going on for a long time. Qatar is one of the Muslim countries that recognized Bangladesh during the Bangabandhu period. In 2023, the relationship between Qatar and Bangladesh has strengthened again. In continuation of this, Qatar’s Maha Muhim Amir will visit Bangladesh.
Recently, with the aim of increasing the scope of diplomatic communication and bilateral cooperation at various levels with Qatar, the areas of investment and job creation, energy aviation, agriculture, food security, climate change, etc. have been identified. Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said that a proposal to make an economic zone in Bangladesh will be made during the visit of the Emir of Qatar. He said, ‘We have ceramics, we have garment products, we have many other export items, I will say these to increase exports. Besides, we have medicine. They are still exported, I would say to increase the volume. I will also discuss their investment in Bangladesh, especially in our economic zone. We will ask for investment, Qatar can invest in various fields, can invest in the economic sector.
