A rickshaw puller’s death has created a stir in Sylhet. Police initially ruled the death to be heatstroke, but doctors could not confirm the cause of death.

The incident took place in front of the South Surma Police Box around 11:00 on Sunday (April 21).

The deceased Md. Abu Hanif Mia (34) is the son of Md. Karam Ali of Shibpur village of Lakhai upazila of Habiganj. He lived temporarily in Sylhet city and drove a rickshaw.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Surma Police Station Yardous Hasan said that the rickshaw driver named Abu Hanif Mia fainted in front of the South Surma Police Box at around 11 am on Sunday. Later, locals rescued him and took him to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body is at Osmani Medical College Hospital and his family has been informed.

Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Soumitra Chakraborty said, a rickshaw driver died after fainting. There is no chance to say heatstroke. Sylhet does not have the temperature at which heatstroke is supposed to occur. However, whether he died of heatstroke or not will be known after the post-mortem.
