The price of dubbing has increased with the demand in hot weather

Dub has increased demand to quench thirst in the ongoing heat wave. Along with that, the price has also increased.

Small size dubs are being sold up to Tk 100 in the capital, increasing from Tk 30 to Tk 60. And medium and large size dubs are being sold for 150 to 200 taka each. This is a record price this year.

Jusinur sells dubbing in a van in Motijheel area. He told UNB that after the Eid holidays, the wholesalers have increased the price of dub by Tk 30 to Tk 60.

He also said that in five years the business has never seen such high prices. Not even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ibrahim Sardar, a wholesaler of fruits and vegetables in Sadarghat’s Badamtali, told this reporter that the demand was always low after Eid, but this time the demand has increased due to the intense heat wave.

Suppliers have bought dub from producers at a higher price and due to this the price of dub in the wholesale market is increasing, said the seller. That’s why he also had to buy dubbing from the suppliers at a higher price.

On Sunday, the price of dub was seen to be quite high in Dhaka Medical College, Gulistan, Paltan and Shahbagh areas.

One of the wholesale markets of Dhaka, Karwan Bazar, has seen high prices of dubbing. According to traders, the price of dub has also increased at the supply points of Barisal, Bhola, Bagerhat, Noakhali, Faridpur, Jessore and Mymensingh regions.

Over the last 10 days, the price of cans has increased by Rs 30 each at the supply level.

Wholesaler Surya Ali told UNB that the price of 100 boxes now stands at 12,000 to 14,000 taka. Such high prices have not been seen before.

He said that the price of dubbing was less than 2 to 3 thousand rupees in the month of Ramadan too.

According to consumer rights organization Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), in 2009 the average price of a dub in Dhaka was Tk 22. In 2020, the price of each rose to 74 rupees.

Cab Vice President SM Najer Hossain said that currently the average price of each cab is below Tk 100.

According to the information of the Department of Agriculture Extension, the production of coconut in 46 thousand 960 hectares of land in the financial year 2016-17 decreased from 6 lakh 88 thousand 691 tons to 5 lakh 10 thousand 360 tons in the land of 38 thousand 221 hectares in the financial year 2021-22.

Analyzing the data of the Department of Agriculture Extension, it can be seen that the production of coconuts started to decrease after the financial year 2019-20. 6 lakh 63 thousand 851 tons in 2017-18 financial year, 6 lakh 50 thousand 932 tons in 2018-19 financial year, 6 lakh 53 thousand 520 tons in 2019-20 financial year, 5 lakh 19 thousand 458 tons in 2020-21 financial year and 5 lakh in 2021-22 financial year 10 thousand 360 tons of coconuts have been produced.

Bhola district produced maximum 88 thousand tons of coconut in 2021-22 fiscal year and 1 lakh 23 thousand 950 tons in 2016-17 fiscal year.

The project director of the year-round fruit production and nutrition development project under the Directorate of Agricultural Extension. Mehdi Masud said that coconut cultivation is not increasing in keeping with the population growth of the country.

He said that due to the increase in the demand in the country, the prices of both dab and coconut have increased.
