Influential US media outlet New York Times (NYT) reported, citing sources, that in the past two months, Russian forces have destroyed five American-made M1 Abrams tanks sent to Ukraine. The newspaper reported that at least three other Abrams tanks had been ‘moderately damaged’ since earlier this year. Abraham tanks, one of the most powerful symbols of American military power, are beginning to suffer in the drone war, the newspaper said, adding that German Leopard tanks were also targeted by Russian strikes, with at least 30 of them destroyed.
‘Depending on their size and technological sophistication, drones can cost as little as $500, a small investment to destroy a $10 million Abraham tank,’ the NYT said.
