The fire at Chaumuhani Bazar in Begumganj, the commercial hub of Noakhali, has been brought under control.
Begumganj upazila executive officer (UNO) confirmed the matter. Arifur Rahman told The Daily Star that the fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. The fire was brought under control around 11:30 pm with the efforts of seven fire service units.

UNO also said that the amount of damage will be assessed on Monday.
However, Chaumuhani Merchants Association general secretary Abul Khair told Daily Star that 40-50 shops in the market were gutted in the fire.
Sabuj, a local resident, said that the first fire broke out from Bhuya Hosiery cloth shop in Mosque Market on Badamtala Road in Choumuhani Bazar around 8:30 pm on Sunday. In no time the fire spread all around.
Assistant Director of Noakhali Fire Service Farid Ahmed said that the cause of the fire and the amount of damage can be said after the investigation.
