The police recovered the cut throat body of Iti Begum (38), wife of Imam Shafiqul Islam in Singa Sholpur of Narail Sadar Upazila. On Sunday (April 21st), the body of Iti Begum with her throat slit was recovered from the tenant’s house at around 9:30 pm.
The police and relatives of the deceased said that the childless wife of Imam Shafiqul lived alone at home. Shafiqul Islam lives there because he leads a mosque in Mochra Baitun Noor Jam of Lohagara upazila.
A few years ago, a day laborer named Monirul Islam came to this area from Fakirhat area of Bagerhat with his family in search of work. Imam Shafiqul Islam rented him a single room in his own house. Last two months ago, the tenant Monirul sent his family to the village and lived alone. Imam Shafiqul Islam came to his place of work in Lohagarh on April 17 after Eid holiday.
From last Friday (April 19) morning, the neighbors saw the lock hanging in the tenant’s house including the Imam couple’s house. The next day on Saturday, not finding Imam’s wife at home, the relatives called her and informed her about the matter. Shafiqul Islam said that the wife may have gone to visit some house as there are several relative houses in the village. He did not worry about his wife as iti Begum had visited her relatives for a few weeks before.
When the stench was emanating from Shafiqul Islam’s house from Sunday night, the local people informed the police along with Imam Shafiqul Islam. The police reached the spot and found the dead body of Imam’s wife Iti Begum with her throat cut from under the bed of the tenant Monirul Islam’s house.
Imam Shafiqul Islam said on Monday (April 22) morning, I have been leading a mosque with reputation for a long time. There was no lack of love between us for not having children. I believed and allowed Monirul to stay at home with my brother’s place. He broke my trust
Parhezga sent his wife away from the world and looted the house.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station Mohammad Saiful Islam said on Monday (April 22) morning that after receiving information at night, he arrived at the scene and recovered the dead body of Iti Begum from under the bed of Monirul, a tenant of Imam Shafiqul Islam’s house. Haisho (big sickle) used in the murder was seized as evidence from the scene. The body has been sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. The operation to nab Monirul Islam, who is on the suspect list, is continuing.
