Dhaka: Popular small screen actor Oliul Haque Rumi passed away due to cancer (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun). He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Ibn Sina Hospital in the early hours of Monday (April 22).

Aliul Haque Rumi’s death was confirmed by his colleagues. Actor Ziaul Apurba confirmed Rumi’s death on his verified Facebook page.

Actress Farzana Chumki wrote on Facebook, ‘Rumi Bhai is finally gone. Good luck on the other side. The first phone call on my birthday was your phone. That call will never come again. Rumi bhai who will do Abhiman with Sabbir (actor Mir Sabbir). Forgive brother.’

It is known that Oliul Haque Rumi was suffering from colon cancer for a long time. He was taken to Chennai, India for first aid. After returning home from there, he was receiving treatment at Ibn Sina Hospital in the capital.

Meanwhile, Aliul Haque Rumi’s first funeral was held at Shahid Bagh Jame Masjid in Khilgaon on Monday morning. After that the body is being taken to Barguna. After another funeral there, this talented actor will be buried next to his mother’s grave.

Born in Barguna, Rumi’s father was a brave freedom fighter, Azizul Haque. Mother Hamida Haque. Rumi was the youngest among three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Rumi started acting in 1988 with the play ‘Ekhno Kritdas’ at Theater Bailey Road. In the same year, he made his debut on the small screen with the play ‘Kon Kanan Phool’. Suggestion Salim, Dhaka Metro Love, Bokasoka Trio, Dhaka to Barisal, American Saheb, Sonar Shikal, Comedy 420 Makeup Man, President Sirajuddaula are some of his notable dramas.

Apart from television, he also acted in movies. In 2009, Rumi acted for the first time in the film ‘Dariapar Daulati’.
