The police recovered the strangled body of a housewife named Iti Begum (38) from Narail. His body was recovered from Gobra village of Singasholpur union of Sadar upazila at around 9:30 pm on Sunday (April 21).
Iti Begum is the wife of Hafez Shafiqul Islam of Gobra village. The deceased’s husband is working as an imam at Mochra Baitun Noor Jame Masjid in Lohagra Upazila of the district.
According to police and local sources, a day laborer named Monirul Islam came to Gobra village from Fakirhat in Bagerhat with his family in search of work. At that time he rented a single-storey house of Imam Shafiqul.
However, a couple of months ago, Monirul sent his family members to the village and stayed here himself. In between, Shafiqul left his workplace Lohagarh after the Eid holiday on April 17. Two days after that, the neighbors found locks in the house of the tenant Monirul along with the Imam couple’s house.
When the neighbors informed Shafiqul over the phone, he said that there are several relative’s houses in the village. Iti may have gone home for a visit. But from Sunday night, Shafiqul’s house started to smell bad. After reporting to the police station, the police came to the spot and recovered the dead body of Iti Begum from under the bed of the tenant Monirul’s house.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Narail Sadar police station, Mohammad Saiful Islam, said that after receiving information, the body of the landlord’s wife was recovered from under the bed of the tenant’s house. An operation is underway to arrest the suspect Monirul Islam.
