Today is April 22, Monday. International Women’s Day. The day is celebrated on this day every year to create awareness about environment protection. The theme of this year’s Women’s Day is ‘Earth vs Plastic’.

On the occasion of Dharitri Raksha Amara (Dhara) and Waterkeepers Bangladesh, a sit-in and sit-in program has been organized to demand an end to polythene and plastic pollution at Dhaka University’s self-earned freedom square.

It is a day designated by the United Nations. The day was first celebrated in 1970 and is now celebrated worldwide by the Earth Day Network. Currently, Women’s Day is celebrated every year in 193 countries.

The natural environment of the world is gradually becoming uninhabitable. US Senator Gaylord Nelson thought about this issue in the early 1960s. He went to Washington in late 1962 to discuss the matter with Attorney General Robert Kennedy. Kennedy liked this very much.

It is to be noted that in September 1963, the issue was supposed to be discussed in the eleventh state dialogue of the then US President. But there was no fruitful discussion on this. But Nelson continued to campaign. Which later made many people aware. Finally in 1970 AD, ‘Earth Day’ was fixed on 22nd April.

The 1st Women’s Day was officially celebrated in the United States on April 22 next year. Then it was called Environmental Teach-in. Currently, this day is being celebrated officially in many countries of the world. In Northern Hemisphere countries this day is celebrated in spring and in Southern Hemisphere countries in autumn.

The United Nations placed the day in the annual calendar in 1990. Countries belonging to the United Nations are encouraged to observe it. After that the day is celebrated internationally as ‘World Mother’s Day’.
