An autorickshaw driver named Harun Chowkidar (43) died due to heat stroke in Shariatpur. The incident took place in front of the district council on Sunday (April 21) at noon.
The deceased Harun Chowkidar is the son of Ali Hossain Chowkidar of Nayan Madbarkandi area of Moktarchar union of Naria upazila.
According to the hospital and witnesses, for a long time Harun Chowkidar has been driving auto-rickshaws in the district town to make a living. Like every day on Sunday afternoon, he was transporting passengers to the DC office area, ignoring the scorching heat. When the front wheel of his auto-rickshaw had a mechanical fault, he pushed the auto-rickshaw himself and brought it to a garage in front of the Zilla Parishad, 6 minutes away. Later he was taking off the faulty wheel and giving it air. During this time, he was sweating in the extreme heat and fell ill suddenly. On seeing the matter, the locals quickly rescued him and took him to Sadar Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Harun Chowkidar’s cousin lawyer Shamsuzzaman Sekender said, “My cousin came out with an autorickshaw in the heat.” When the autorickshaw had a problem, he tried to open it and repair it himself. He fell ill due to overworked heat. He died before being taken to the hospital.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital Mitu Akhter said, “I am not aware of the incident.” Moreover, if someone is brought to the hospital in a broad dead state, then we also do not have the opportunity to identify the cause of death.
