Barcelona responded with a statement on their website on Wednesday after El Mundo published the report.
“Barcelona’s statement regarding the report published in El Mundo entitled ‘Barça Leaks, The Club’s Secret Files’, says the club is outraged by the deliberate leak of information that is part of the legal process.”
“The club regrets that a media outlet in question has ‘accessed a large number of documents and emails which are still part of the Bursagate investigation’, where this information has yet to be released.”
Barcelona said it is preparing to take legal action against El Mundo after reviewing all aspects.
‘Bursagate’ is an ongoing case regarding payments to third parties. The case is ongoing against former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board of directors for allegedly breaching internal protocol and campaigning against club legends.
It has nothing to do with Messi or his contract with Barcelona. However, the emails exchanged between him and the club during the negotiations over the extension have been seized by the police for the sake of Barsagate investigation.
And that went to El Mundo. Messi has given some other conditions for contract renewal in 2020. A three-year extension till 2023 as well as €1 crore as a signing bonus and later sought an extension till 2024 on his own volition.
