BCB chief selector wants Shakib in DPL

Dhaka, April 23, 2024 (BASS): Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu wants to see all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan play in some matches of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Super League before the upcoming five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. .
Shakib played some matches for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the first phase of DPL after the series against Sri Lanka. Later, he went to the United States to spend Eid holidays with his family.
Today former national team captain Lipu said, ‘We have already contacted Shakib. He will return to the country at the end of this month.
He also said, ‘He has the opportunity to play in some Super League matches in DPL. After that he will be under the supervision of team management. There you will get a chance to practice some cricket skills. But we definitely want him to play in some matches towards the end of the Super League.
There is uncertainty over whether Shakib will play in the Super League match considering the fatigue from the long journey from the US. Besides, the players are at risk of getting injured due to the intense heat prevailing in the country.
Still, Lipur Biswas believes that Shakib can adapt to the heat if he plays in DPL matches. He said, ‘Every cricketer has to come through a process. As he will come from abroad, naturally he will be tired. But there is a matter of adapting to the heat. After that, he will have to work with the team management to return to cricket as soon as possible. We will look into these issues.’
With Shakib absent from the recent series, the team’s understanding has also been questioned. Lipu said that Bangladesh has many matches before the T20 World Cup. Which will help the players to play together.
He said, ‘Shakib knows how to mix with other players. This is not the problem. We will play five T20Is against Zimbabwe and then we have three more matches against USA. Through which the players will get the opportunity to spend time together.
