The Jagannath University administration has announced to stop the physical class-examination for an indefinite period as the heat did not subside even after conducting online classes for a week.

This decision was informed in a notification sent by the public relations office of the university on Thursday afternoon.

The notification said, “Due to the ongoing heatwave in the country, all classes and examinations of the students will be physically closed in the university until further notice considering health protection.” However, online classes and other activities of the university will continue as usual.”

The notification also requested to follow the hygiene rules during the intense heat.

When asked whether the university bus will run even if there is no physical class-examination, Transport Administrator Siddharth Bhowmik told bdnews24.com, “I have just seen the notice of the university. We will also inform with a notice from the transport department.”

Since the beginning of Baisakh, the rising temperature has disrupted public life for a week. Weather forecasts have already said that there will be no immediate relief from the ongoing heat wave.

Azizur Rahman, director of the Meteorological Department, said that the ongoing heatwave may continue until May 4/5; But during this time the temperature will not rise above 42 degrees Celsius.

The highest temperature recorded this season was on April 20; On that day, the temperature in Jessore rose to 42.6 degrees Celsius. And the temperature in Dhaka was 40.4 degrees Celsius.

Deaths due to heatstroke are coming from different parts of the country amid uncomfortable conditions in extreme heat. That is why the government is also advising to be careful to make the people aware.

Taking into account the health protection of students, the government has announced a seven-day holiday in all the schools and colleges of the country. Besides, it was decided to close the classes for an indefinite period in all the colleges affiliated to the National University.
