The president and general secretary of Singra Upazila Swachhasevak League of Natore has been released due to allegations of kidnapping the candidate for the post of chairman in the upazila parishad elections.

This information was informed in a press release signed by District Volunteer League President Khandaker Ishtiaq Ahmed Dollar and General Secretary Shafiul Azam Swapan on Tuesday night.

Besides, Upazila Swachhasevak League vice president MM Wahiduzzaman Pintu has been instructed to serve as president and joint general secretary Sohel Rana Munnu as general secretary.

In Singra Upazila Parishad elections, two candidates filed nomination papers for the post of chairman. After verification, the election returning officer declared the nomination papers of two candidates Lutful Habib Rubel and Delwar Hossain as valid.

Lutful Habib Rubel is joint secretary of Singra Upazila Awami League and brother-in-law of Singra Member of Parliament and ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak. He resigned from the chairmanship of Sherkol Union Parishad to participate in the upazila elections.

In the afternoon of April 15, a group of people took the chairman candidate Delwar Hossain in a microbus from in front of Natore district election office. They dropped him in front of the house after a few hours.

It was alleged that rival candidate Lutful Habib Rubel kidnapped and beat her. Singra Upazila Volunteer League President Md. Hasan Imam and general secretary. Mohan Ali’s involvement is seen.

Because of this, they have been exempted, the letter of the district volunteer team says, “Rival candidate Md. Singra Upazila Volunteer League President Md. Suman’s statement, video footage circulated on news portals and social media in the case filed in unwanted incidents including obstruction of Delwar Hossain’s nomination papers, assault and kidnapping. Hasan Imam and general secretary. Mohan Ali has involvement. Which is contrary to the principles, ideals and organizational discipline of Bangladesh Awami Volunteer League.

The letter stated that they were relieved of their current duties due to their involvement in activities against organizational discipline.

Meanwhile, Lutful Habib Rubel was forced to withdraw his candidature after the abduction incident. As a result, the returning officer and district election officer Abdul Latif Sheikh announced that Delwar was elected unopposed on Tuesday as a single candidate.
